1. Grand Bahama Island is a purpose built industrial free trade zone.
2. Grand Bahama Island is one of the largest man-made harbors in the world.
3. It has the deepest harbor in the region.
4. The entrance channel and turning basin are dredged to a depth of 16 meters.
5. At the northwest of the harbor Entrance is the anchorage area which provides shelter for vessels during winter weather conditions. Vessels can utilize the anchorage FREE OF CHARGE. Update: As of June 1 2015, a charge has been implemented for this service.
6. Businesses at the harbor include Cruise, RO/RO facilities for containerized and LTL cargo, Car and Container Transshipment, Dry-docking and Ship Repair Facilities, as well numerous wet-docking berths located within the harbor area.
7. There are also non bulk-headed berths located inside the harbor which are ideal for vessel lay-ups.
8. The harbor has a maximum draft restriction of 9 meters and vessels with LOA’s of up to 305 meters can be accommodated alongside.
9. Towage and pilot services are available 24 hours daily.
10. Just outside of the Harbor entrance to the south are offshore jetties owned and operated by BORCO which is the Bahamas Oil Refining Company. BORCO terminal currently has 21.6 million barrels of storage capacity.
